Safety Flooring for Pools and Spas

FlexFlooring Ltd offers the perfect solution for those looking for a safe, stylish and seamless surround to their pool or spas.  Our safety floors will totally transform any area and are designed to reduce the incidence of wet/slip accidents.

Our safety floors have previously been installed around small and large domestic pools, hotel and leisure club pools, holiday park pools, lidos and leisure centres.  We have also installed our safety floors around Jacuzzi’s, on boat decks and roof top gardens so whatever and wherever your project is, we have the experience to ensure you get a fantastic non-slip floor!

We offer two key products and our recommendations for your installation would be dependent on a number of factors.  If you can answer the following questions, we can recommend a product and give you a quote:

  • What is the approx area of your installation in m²?
  • What is the geographic location of the site?
  • Is your installation indoors or outside?
  • Is your installation a new build or refurbishment?
  • Is your installation a pool surround or something else (e.g. pathway, decking, steps etc.)?
  • What surface will we be installing onto?
  • Will your installation be continually underwater, a wet area or semi wet area?
  • What colour would you like – single colour or mix?
  • What finish would you like, completely smooth or textured?

Our two products are…

RubbaFLEX Pool surrounds
UltraTUFF

Which product is right for you?

Our two products are not mutually exclusive and often it will be down to the finish you are after and or the colour you prefer.  However, there are a few key differences:

  • Rubbaflex primarily consists of a rubber granule bound with a resin, UltraTUFF™ is a paint which incorporates a rubber crumb.
  • UltraTUFF™ is a paint which is installed using a spray gun (we recommend 2 coats for most installations), Rubbaflex Pool Surround is hand trowelled to a depth of 6mm.
  • Rubbaflex allows you to mix different coloured granules together or add a colour fleck, whereas UltraTUFF™ comes in single colours.
  • UltraTUFF™has a finish that is slightly textured and the finish of Rubbaflex is completely smooth.
  • Rubbaflex is a porous surface, which can allow water to flow through it, UltraTUFF™ is completely non-porous and so is great for changing rooms and other semi-wet areas.
  • UltraTUFF™ can be used underwater, for example as an internal pool finish.

Useful Information

What else you can do to help a smooth installation?

Get the correct measurement of your pool surround

  • Take measurements of the perimeter of your area and the swimming pool (we like to work in meters, rather than feet and inches).
  • Draw up a plan with the perimeter measurements and pool measurements included.
  • Divide your pool surround plan into rectangles
  • Work out the area for each rectangle by multiplying the width by the length to give you a total m² for each rectangle.
  • Where you have curves (e.g. a roman ended swimming pool), square off the curve and work out the area and divide that area by 2.
  • Add together all the totals to get the total area of your pool surround.
  • Alternatively, let us pay a visit and measure for you!  We will also take a measurement once the project has been commissioned and finalise the size of the area before installing.

Surface Preparation

Key to any successful installation is the preparation of the substrate and we offer a full surface preparation service.  We are therefore happy to provide you with a cost for surface preparation and undertake this aspect of the project.

However, should you (or your pool builders) wish to undertake this aspect of the project, our experience has shown that the correct preparation can significantly increase the life of the floor and therefore we recommend installing Rubbaflex onto a newly laid concrete.

  • New concrete or screed would need to be fully cured for a minimum of 21-28 days in normal conditions.
If you have the following existing surface type, it is worth considering the following:
  • Existing concrete: As such a surface often has an impervious finish that affects the keying capabilities of any new surface, we recommend diamonding grinding existing concrete to remove any surface laitance or contaminants on the surface to create the perfect surface key for our flooring.
  • Tiles: Have to be solid, with no loose or delaminating tiles.  Again we recommend that all tiles be diamond ground to provide a suitable mechanical key for the new surface to bond to.
  • Paving slabs: We suggest a thorough jet washing and a check to ensure they are all solid underfoot – any loose or unlevel slabs need to be re-laid.

If we do not undertake the surface preparation, it is the clients responsibility to ensure we are installing onto a surface that is sound and suitable for the intended purpose.
